On May 26th
2011 a new EU law came into effect in the UK regarding cookies, the law effects
most websites and will change the whole web browsing experience. The Cookie Law
is privacy legislation and states that websites that use cookies must inform
the site user and gain consent from them before they can store or retrieve any
information from their device.
Site operators did not
face penalties for 12 months until the 26th May 2012 when the Cookie
Law will be enforced. Companies that fail to comply to the legislation could
face up £500,000 in penalties.
